Dear Beauty Industry: We’re Done With the 10-Step Nonsense
Share
Let's talk about the absolute nonsense the beauty industry peddles to women over 50. If you read the magazines, you'd think we're supposed to be in a constant state of warfare with our own faces. Everything is about "battling" fine lines, stripping the skin barrier to within an inch of its life, and buying into 12-step routines packaged in layers of useless cardboard.
I am tired of it. You are probably tired of it too. At 58, I don't want to fight my skin; I want to feed it what it actually needs to function at its absolute best.
Here are three beauty industry myths we need to stop buying into:
Myth 1: You need harsh, aggressive treatments for real results.
The industry loves to sell us chemical peels and brutal manual scrubs, claiming they "renew" mature skin. Actually, as oestrogen drops, our lipid barrier becomes much thinner and more delicate. Micro-tearing your skin with aggressive physical scrubs doesn't make it look better—it causes micro-trauma and inflammation, which accelerates the breakdown of collagen. Mature skin responds beautifully to being supported, not assaulted. This is why plant-based lipid profiles—think rosehip seed, argan, and jojoba oils—work so well. They mimic our natural sebum to reinforce the skin's barrier without stripping it.
Myth 2: "Natural" means weak.
A lot of big brands want you to believe that if it isn't synthesized in a lab, it doesn't work. That is simply untrue. Plants are chemical powerhouses. For example, cold-pressed rosehip oil is packed with natural Vitamin A (retinoic acid), which means you get the cellular turnover and texture-smoothing benefits of synthetic retinol without the raw, flaky irritation. We don't have to choose between natural botanicals and scientific results. They are the same thing.
Myth 3: You need a 10-step routine.
More products just mean more money for the brand, more plastic in the landfill, and more unnecessary outer packaging. Your skin can only absorb a limited amount of active ingredients before products simply sit on top of each other, preventing anything from actually penetrating the barrier. A streamlined routine with high-quality, targeted ingredients will always outperform a bathroom shelf full of generic fillers.
We formulate for skin that has lived, laughed, and has the confidence to expect real function from its skincare, not empty promises.
If you're ready to switch to a simple routine with real results, take a look at the unretouched photo below. This is what genuine, functional barrier support looks like in real life—no tricks, no filters, just skin that gets exactly what it needs to function at its best.
